Born from my discovery of the depths of the red sea. But the first naturalistic emotions evolve in successive rediscoveries, almost deriving one from the other, as in a game of Chinese boxes; the sea is one moment a deep blue darkness, then a viscous softness interwoven with red flashes of marine life, then a vast indeterminate azure liquid, then a limpid deserted dawn.
